Recycled Plastic...glass envy
I manufacture gourmet sauerkraut and am looking to switch my packaging materials from glass to plastic. This may seem a little perverse to some, but ecologically it may be better suited to use petroleum based materials than glass. For one, glass is heavy, using more fuel to ship. It requires extreme heat, using more fuel to produce, it can break wasting my money and good kraut, and it is getting more scarce. Plastic, the miracle material, is light weight, highly recylclable, uses less fuel to ship, doesn't break, but I'm sure it is very toxic to produce. How toxic, we'll see... For now if interested the FDA has a few words about using recycled plastic in food grade containersHERE It's a little wordy but if you like industrial applications of chemistry your day is made!
